Living with Painful Skin Shedding and Cruel Reactions.
Becca Joy Stout, a woman from Brooklyn, suffers from a rare skin disorder called epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, which causes her skin to shed up to 10 times faster than normal. Stout's skin constantly peels and blisters, leaving her susceptible to deadly infections. Friction from human contact can also leave her in unbearable pain, but remarks from strangers hurt most of all. Despite the pain, Stout manages her condition through different techniques and treatments, such as scrubbing her skin and using specialized lotions. She is enrolled in a Disability Studies master's program and is not afraid of trying new things, even if they cause considerable pain.
