Drug-resistant bacteria found in clouds.
A recent study by Canadian and French researchers found that drug-resistant bacteria can be carried by clouds over long distances, potentially becoming a major health concern worldwide. The bacteria were found in cloud samples taken from an atmospheric research station in central France, with an average of around 8,000 bacteria per milliliter. The study did not offer conclusions on the potential health effects of the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the atmosphere, but atmospheric monitoring could help pinpoint sources and limit their dispersal.
