"Tornadoes Strike California Central Coast: NWS Confirms Tornadic Activity"

The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes, both registering as EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, touched down in San Luis Obispo County, the first in nearly 20 years. The first tornado hit near Los Osos, causing intermittent damage along its path, while the second touched down in Grover Beach, toppling trees and causing damage to businesses. These are the first confirmed tornadoes in the county since 2004 and are believed to be the most powerful to touch down since at least 1950.

Rare and Powerful Tornado Hits Los Angeles Area.

The tornado that hit the Los Angeles area on Wednesday was the strongest to hit the region in 40 years, with winds of 110 mph. The National Weather Service rated it as EF1. The tornado tore the roofs off buildings, damaged vehicles, and wiped out trees. One person was injured, and nearly a dozen of the 17 businesses examined by inspectors were red-tagged. The last time an EF1 tornado occurred in the area was in January 1998 in Long Beach.
