Severe Storms Cause Tornado Damage and Power Outages in Middle TN and Southern KY

The National Weather Service (NWS) has shared preliminary results from their tornado survey in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. The NWS found an EF-2 tornado with peak winds of 120-125 mph in the Madison-Hendersonville area, an EF-3 tornado with 150 mph winds in Montgomery County and Clarksville, an EF-2 tornado with 125 mph winds in Todd County, and an EF-2 tornado with 115 mph winds in Logan County. They also identified an EF-1 tornado in Warren County. Additional surveys are planned for other areas this week.

Midwest States Devastated by Multiple Tornadoes in Friday Night Storms

The National Weather Service confirmed 17 tornadoes touched down in Indiana on Friday night, with the strongest being EF3 tornadoes in Sullivan, Monroe, and Owen counties. Five people died in the storms. Johnson County was declared a state of emergency, and nearly 50 power poles were down in Whiteland. The EF scale measures tornado strength, with EF2 or EF3 considered strong and EF4 or EF5 considered violent. The NWS still needs to assess the Valparaiso area, so the number of confirmed tornadoes could grow.
