
Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke Convicted of Racketeering and Corruption Charges
Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke has been found guilty of 13 out of 14 counts of racketeering, bribery, and attempted extortion in a landmark corruption trial. The jury unanimously determined that Burke used his position of power to force businesses to hire his private law firm. Burke's conviction marks the 38th member of the Chicago City Council to be convicted of a crime since 1968. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years for racketeering.
