"Eastern Philosophy and Science Align on the Concept of 'Self'"
Eastern philosophy and neuroscience agree that the concept of the self, or "me," is an illusion created by the thinking mind. While Western thought views the self as a stable and continuous entity, Eastern thought sees it as a process of thinking that creates the self. Neuroscience has yet to locate the self in the brain, and studies have shown that the left side of the brain creates explanations for events that are often incorrect. Mistaking the voice in our head for a real thing causes mental suffering, and recognizing the illusory nature of the self can alleviate this suffering.
