Turmeric: A Natural Alternative to Omeprazole for Indigestion Relief
A new study has found that turmeric, a spice traditionally used as an antacid in Southeast Asia, can be as effective as the medication omeprazole in reducing stomach acid associated with dyspepsia. The study compared the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, with omeprazole and found that both were equally effective in resolving dyspepsia. However, the combination of the two did not offer any additional benefits. While turmeric has been used for its antacid properties for thousands of years, there is a lack of standardized dosing guidelines, and excessive consumption can lead to indigestion and other inflammatory responses.
