Scientists analyzing images of the Moon's surface have discovered boulders covered in uniquely magnetized dust, possibly indicating distinct properties of the lunar dust. Using AI to review images from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, the researchers identified 130,000 images of rocks with compelling features, leading to the discovery. The dust-covered boulders, found in the Reiner K crater, exhibit unusual photometric behavior, reflecting less light back towards the sun than other rocks. The upcoming Lunar Vertex mission aims to explore this phenomenon further, potentially shedding light on the Moon's formation and impact history.
