
Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo to Succeed Dr. Anthony Fauci as NIAID Director
Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, the director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been chosen to replace Dr. Anthony Fauci as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). She will oversee a $6.3 billion budget and support research and response to outbreaks of public health threats. Her research focuses on the human microbiome, particularly female and sexual diseases. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin praised her exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he believes saved thousands of lives.
