Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo appointed as new director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, replacing Dr. Fauci

Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo has been appointed as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). With a background in infectious diseases research, Dr. Marrazzo will oversee NIAID's budget of $6.3 billion and lead efforts to understand, treat, and prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. Her expertise includes clinical trials, translational research, and managing research funding. She will take over from acting director Hugh Auchincloss, Jr., and her research has focused on the human microbiome, HIV prevention, and antibiotic resistance.
