Iditarod Champion Dallas Seavey Defends Dogs, Kills Moose
Iditarod musher Dallas Seavey was forced to kill a moose in self-defense during the race, and then had to gut the animal as per event rules, delaying his arrival at the Finger Lake checkpoint. Other mushers also encountered moose-related obstacles, with one having to punch a moose in the nose and another running over a moose carcass. The incident occurred approximately 14 miles outside Skwentna, and race organizers are making efforts to salvage the moose meat. Seavey, a five-time Iditarod champion, arrived at the next checkpoint in fourth place, while race leader Jessie Holmes encountered his own moose-related challenge.
