DOJ Supports Tesla in Louisiana Direct Sales Lawsuit
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has supported Tesla's argument in a circuit court appeal against the state of Louisiana over its ban on direct automotive sales. The DOJ filing echoed Tesla's claim that the judge had misinterpreted antitrust law by requiring the automaker to prove that Louisiana dealer groups intended to suppress competition. The DOJ stated that such a requirement would improperly restrict the reach of antitrust law. Tesla had filed the lawsuit against Louisiana dealer groups last year, alleging harassment and baseless investigations. The appeal date has not been set, and this is one of several direct sales bans Tesla faces at the state level in the U.S.
