"Uncovering the Legacy of Professor Sir Anthony Epstein"
Professor Sir Anthony Epstein had a breakthrough moment in 1961 while attending a lecture on children's cancers in tropical Africa, leading to his pioneering work in cancer research. Inspired by Irish surgeon Denis Burkitt's findings, Epstein began mapping the incidence of the tumors in Uganda and hypothesized that viruses could cause cancer in humans, based on his work with chicken viruses.
