USAF and DIU Select Four Firms for Modular Drone Prototypes

The undersecretary of defense for research and engineering will use all available resources to support DIU's mission, including providing human resources and administrative support.

The Department of Defense has announced Doug Beck as the new Director of the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), where he will oversee efforts to accelerate the Department's adoption of commercial technology throughout the military. Beck will also serve as a senior advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense on technology innovation, competition, and strategic impact. The DIU Director will now report directly to the Secretary of Defense, and DIU will be under the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense. Beck is currently Vice President of Apple and a Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
