"Shipping Industry's Net-Zero Goal: Nuclear Power as the Solution"

The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) gathering of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is at risk of failing to establish clear goals and economic measures to decarbonize shipping. Countries like China, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia are opposing policies that they believe will be economically burdensome. The chances of an agreement to align shipping with the 1.5 Celsius target of the Paris Agreement are diminishing. Environmental activists are urging member states to follow the science and set ambitious emissions reduction targets. If the IMO fails to deliver, regional regulations led by the European Union may take over.
