The suspension affects vessels traveling between the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara, disrupting a vital shipping route between Europe and Asia. Tugboats are on standby to assist firefighting efforts, and larger vessels will wait until Wednesday morning to navigate the strait in daylight. The fire has led to the evacuation of six villages in its path.
