USDA Mandates Nationwide Milk Testing for Bird Flu
The US Department of Agriculture has mandated testing of the national milk supply for bird flu to control its spread in dairy herds, with initial testing starting December 16 in several states. This follows the infection of over 700 dairy herds and 57 human cases, though the public health risk is considered low. The testing aims to swiftly identify affected herds and enhance existing measures for moving milk-producing cows between states.
