CDC Warns of Legionnaires' Risk in Cruise Ship Hot Tubs
The CDC has reported an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease linked to private hot tubs on two cruise ships, with 12 cases identified. The hot tubs, located on cabin balconies, were found to have less stringent maintenance protocols, leading to the growth of Legionella bacteria. In response, cruise lines have adjusted their maintenance practices, including removing heating elements and increasing cleaning frequency. The CDC advises cruise companies to assess and test their hot tubs to prevent further outbreaks.
