"UK Health Officials Warn of Soaring Cases of Highly Contagious '100-Day Cough'"
Health officials in the UK have issued a warning about a highly contagious bacterial infection known as "100-day cough" or whooping cough, which has seen a surge of 250% in cases. The infection starts with cold-like symptoms but can progress to prolonged and intense coughing bouts lasting up to three months. Between July and November, there were 716 reported cases, three times higher than the same period in 2022. The number of infections had decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic but is now on the rise again. Whooping cough can cause difficulty in breathing, vomiting, sore or fractured ribs, and other complications. The NHS recommends vaccination as a preventive measure.
