"Obama's Presidential Center Takes Shape in Chicago"

Construction of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago's South Side is finally underway, after years of delays and legal battles. While many residents are excited about the investment and tourism opportunities the center will bring, there is also concern that it will drive up rents and displace long-time residents. Community organizers are advocating for housing protections to ensure that the benefits of the center are shared by all. The center, set to open in late 2025, aims to be more than just a museum, serving as a gathering place and training ground for future leaders.

Controversy Surrounds Atlanta's Proposed Public Safety Training Center

Opponents of Atlanta's public safety training center have launched a referendum campaign to put the project in front of voters during the November election. The "Vote to Stop Cop City" coalition filed a petition with the city clerk on Wednesday, and once approved, organizers will have 60 days to collect at least 70,303 verified signatures from Atlanta voters. The group is also planning to file an injunction that could prevent the city from continuing construction after the 60-day period for collecting signatures. The training center has faced opposition from community organizers who believe the $67 million in city funding should be allocated elsewhere.
