"Peregrine Moon Lander's Return Ends in Earth's Atmosphere Burn-Up"
The Peregrine moon lander, which was initially planned for a soft landing on the moon, will now crash into Earth's atmosphere on Jan. 18 due to a fuel leak. Astrobotic, the company behind the spacecraft, aims for a safe re-entry path and remains in contact with U.S. government partners. Despite the fuel leak, the spacecraft remains operational and has reached the distance of the moon. The mission, part of NASA's Commercial Lunar Payloads Services program, carries commercial payloads and NASA experiments. Although Peregrine won't make it to the moon, another CLPS launch is expected soon with Intuitive Machines.
