Colorado Property Taxes Soaring: Assessors Warn of Major Spike in Denver and Larimer County.

Property taxes owed in the Denver area may increase by as much as 50% due to skyrocketing home values, county assessors warned. The Colorado legislature is rushing to ease the financial burden before the 2023 lawmaking term ends May 8. The median increase in assessed home values was 33% in Denver, 36.5% in Jefferson County, and 40% to 50% in Douglas County. The legislature last year passed a measure reducing the residential assessment rate through the 2024 tax year for taxes owed in 2025. However, no proposal has been unveiled yet to decrease the tax burden even more.
