California mandates clean trucks with Biden's support.
California's Advanced Clean Trucks rule, backed by the Biden administration, requires manufacturers to phase out most gas-powered heavy-duty vehicles by 2035 and sell increasing shares of zero-emissions trucks. At least six states have already moved to adopt the rule, covering almost a quarter of the nation's auto market. The EPA approved two waivers covering a suite of rules set by state regulators, but held back on a third amid a last-minute spat with the industry. The California Air Resources Board will vote in April on a rule requiring all sales of new trucks to be zero-emission by 2040.
