Doctors Innovate Less Invasive Brain Clot Treatment
Doctors at Stony Brook Medicine have developed a minimally invasive procedure called middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) to treat chronic subdural hematoma, a common condition requiring neurosurgical intervention. This new method uses an injectable fluid to block leaky vessels, eliminating the need for traditional invasive surgeries like drilling a burr hole in the skull. Clinical trials have shown MMAE to be safe, effective, and capable of reducing recurrence rates, potentially revolutionizing the treatment of this condition.
