Understanding the Symptoms and Diagnosis of COPD

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is suspected in individuals who are at risk and experience symptoms such as cough or dyspnea (shortness of breath). Smoking is the primary risk factor, but other causes include chemical exposures, scarring lung disease, and genetic factors. Diagnosis is confirmed through lung function tests, and treatment options aim to slow down lung decline. Regarding Trulicity, a GLP-1 receptor agonist, initial studies showed an increase in thyroid cancer in rats, but no increased rate has been observed in humans. People at risk for this type of thyroid cancer are advised against taking the medication. Reports of pancreatitis have also been associated with this medication. As for taking atorvastatin, if it was prescribed due to arterial blockages, it is recommended to continue. However, if it was prescribed for prevention and there are no side effects, the decision to continue is up to the individual.
