Researchers at University College London (UCL) have developed a gene-altering medicine that could potentially cure a drug-resistant form of childhood epilepsy called focal cortical dysplasia. By increasing the brain's levels of potassium, the therapy reduces the rate of seizures by limiting the risk of electrical impulses misfiring. Human clinical trials are expected to begin within the next five years.
