A suburban Chicago police officer, Radule Bojovic, was arrested by ICE for overstaying his visa by 10 years and living illegally in the U.S., despite being hired and authorized to work as a police officer by the Hanover Park Police Department, which is now under scrutiny for its vetting process.
A Chicago police officer, Karol Chwiesiuk, and his sister have been found guilty of four charges related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The officer, who testified in his own defense, claimed he did not vandalize anything and did not hear alarms when he entered the building. The siblings will be sentenced on Dec. 7, and the officer has been placed on unpaid status with revoked firearms privileges.
Dionne Mhoon, the mother of slain Chicago police Officer Aréanah Preston, accepted her daughter's master's degree in jurisprudence from Loyola University Chicago School of Law during the university's commencement ceremony. Preston, who was pursuing the degree, was fatally shot near her home in Avalon Park. Four teenagers have been charged in connection with her killing. Loyola University President Mark Reed presented Preston's diploma to Mhoon, who received a standing ovation from the audience. Sara Block, academic director for child and family law programs at Loyola, described Preston as a "dynamic, intelligent, committed and a very driven person who wanted to make this world a better place."
