Airline Passenger Charged with Stealing $23K from Fellow Travelers Mid-Flight

A Chinese national, Zhang Xiuqiang, has been charged in Singapore for allegedly stealing over $23,000 from multiple passengers on a Scoot Airlines flight from Vietnam. Xiuqiang is accused of stealing over $20,000 from a black backpack, as well as additional amounts from an envelope and another backpack. He faces up to three years in jail if convicted. The airline confirmed that Xiuqiang was escorted off the plane upon landing and advised passengers to safeguard their valuables.

Changi Airport: World-Class Hub to Offer Passport-Free Departures by 2024

Singapore's Changi Airport, ranked as one of the world's best airports, will introduce automated immigration clearance in 2024, allowing passengers to depart without passports using biometric data. Biometric technology and facial recognition software are already in use at the airport, but the upcoming changes will further streamline the travel process by eliminating the need for physical travel documents. However, passports will still be required for countries outside of Singapore that do not offer passport-free clearance. The airport, which serves over 100 airlines and handles millions of passengers, hopes the biometric system will enhance passenger flow and efficiency. Biometric identification is increasingly being adopted worldwide, with airports in Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Delhi, London, and Paris already utilizing facial recognition technology.

Top Airports of 2023: Seattle, Singapore, and Milwaukee Make the List.

Singapore's Changi Airport has been named the "world's best airport" for a record 12th time in the "World Airport Awards 2023" announced by Skytrax. The survey was participated by global travelers representing more than 100 nationalities. Changi Airport also won the titles of Best Airport in Asia, World's Best Airport — Dining, and World's Best Airport — Leisure Amenities. The airport plans to expand the capacity of its Terminal 2 building by 5 million passengers per year, and has begun upgrading works that are scheduled for completion by 2024.
