Changi Airport: World-Class Hub to Offer Passport-Free Departures by 2024

Singapore's Changi Airport, ranked as one of the world's best airports, will introduce automated immigration clearance in 2024, allowing passengers to depart without passports using biometric data. Biometric technology and facial recognition software are already in use at the airport, but the upcoming changes will further streamline the travel process by eliminating the need for physical travel documents. However, passports will still be required for countries outside of Singapore that do not offer passport-free clearance. The airport, which serves over 100 airlines and handles millions of passengers, hopes the biometric system will enhance passenger flow and efficiency. Biometric identification is increasingly being adopted worldwide, with airports in Dubai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Delhi, London, and Paris already utilizing facial recognition technology.
