Slovak Caretaker PM Resigns Amid Political Turmoil.

Slovak caretaker Prime Minister Eduard Heger has resigned ahead of an election that is expected to favor the pro-Russia Smer-SD party. Heger, who has been running a caretaker government since last September, cited the need for a technocrat government to lead Slovakia to democratic parliamentary elections. President Zuzana Čaputová will now decide on the head of a new caretaker government until the election scheduled in September. Former Prime Minister Robert Fico’s pro-Russia Smer-SD party has been voters’ favorite to lead Slovakia, according to polls.

Slovak Caretaker PM and Ministers Resign, Adding to Political Turmoil.

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger has asked the president to relieve him of his duties after ministers' resignations weakened his cabinet that is serving in a caretaker capacity before elections in September. Heger is due to meet President Zuzana Caputova, who has the power to appoint a new caretaker prime minister, later on Sunday. The public favours the biggest opposition party, which is led by former prime minister Robert Fico and has opposed increasing military aid to neighbouring Ukraine.
