"Lightning strike ignites refinery tank, prompts evacuations in Calcasieu Parish"
A tank containing naphthalene caught fire at Calcasieu Refining after being struck by lightning. The tank had around 46,000 barrels of naphthalene, and the fire is being monitored by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Phillips 66. An evacuation order has been issued for 1.5 miles around the plant, and a shelter-in-place extends 3 miles from the plant. No injuries have been reported, and two other tanks near the naphthalene tank are being cooled with water to prevent the fire from spreading.
