A man in Brandon, Mississippi, has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and murder after allegedly shooting and killing his wife at their home. The police initially responded to the scene under the impression of an accidental death, but further investigation revealed that the victim, Carrie Gorrell, had died from a gunshot wound. The husband, Tyler Gorrell, 35, is currently in custody and may face additional charges as the investigation continues.

A veteran law enforcement officer with the Madison Police Department, Horren Randy Tyler, was killed while responding to a standoff in a Brandon neighborhood. A Brandon police officer was also wounded during the hostage situation that turned into a standoff. The suspect fired shots at officers, and after talking for more than an hour with the suspect, the department's SWAT team was able to get into the house and rescue the hostage. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
