"Sicily's Quarter Moon: Illuminating Earth's Beauty"
A stunning image of a quarter Moon over the Santuario della Madonna Nera (Sanctuary of the Black Madonna) in Tindari, Sicily, was captured by Italian astrophotographer Dario Giannobile. The Moon is illuminated by both the Sun and the light from Earth, showcasing about 75 percent of its surface. The sanctuary, which was originally destroyed by the Ottomans in 1544 and later rebuilt, houses a statue of the Black Madonna made from a single block of cedar from Lebanon.
