Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has resigned, following the return of billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili to the ruling Georgian Dream party. This comes amid political turmoil, including the failure to impeach the president and a far-right mob hunting a woman for defacing a Stalin icon in a Georgian church.
Credit Suisse's appeal against a Bermuda court ruling involving its local life insurance arm and Georgia's former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has been largely dismissed. The court had ruled in March that Ivanishvili and his family were due damages of over $600m as a result of a long-running fraud committed by a former Credit Suisse adviser. Credit Suisse intends to appeal the ruling to the privy council.
Credit Suisse has been ordered by a Singapore court to pay $926m to Georgia's former prime minister, Bidzina Ivanishvili, for losing part of his fortune. The court ruled that a unit of Credit Suisse had not acted in good faith and neglected to keep Ivanishvili's assets safe. Credit Suisse immediately said it would appeal the decision. The bank is also appealing against another judgment related to its management of Ivanishvili's assets.
