Kiersta Kurtz-Burke, a dedicated New Orleans physician known for her compassionate care of the city's most vulnerable patients, passed away at 55. She battled depression while taking a benzodiazepine, and her cause of death was suicide. Throughout her career, she volunteered with the New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic, went on medical missions to Cuba and Haiti, and raised money for children with disabilities. Kurtz-Burke's empathy and love for New Orleans led her to work in a prison during the pandemic and care for patients at Charity Hospital during Hurricane Katrina. She is remembered for her kindness, dedication, and willingness to stand up for others.
