McDonald's franchisee caught employing unpaid 10-year-old workers.
A McDonald's franchisee, Bauer Food LLC, has been fined by the Labor Department for hiring two 10-year-old children and making them work without pay, sometimes until 2 a.m. The children were employed by the franchisee and worked at the register, drive-thru, and even a deep fryer, which is prohibited for workers under 16 years old. Bauer Food LLC claimed that the children were visiting their parent, who worked as a night manager, and were not authorized to work. The franchisee was also found to have allowed 22 other teenagers under the age of 16 to work more than legally permitted hours. The Labor Department fined Bauer Food LLC $39,711.
