A US watchdog has called for stricter regulations on food additives in the US after the UK seized American candies and sodas containing additives banned in Europe due to their links to cancer and other health problems. The watchdog, Consumer Reports, urged US officials to expand the list of banned food additives to include more chemicals and food dyes that have been outlawed in Europe for years. California has already outlawed four food additives, and New York and Pennsylvania are considering similar measures. The UK and EU have banned many of these additives for decades, and representatives in California argue that Americans deserve the same level of protection.
