"LG Abandons ATSC 3.0, Signaling Troubles for NextGen TV Market"

LG has announced that its new TVs will not support the ATSC 3.0 standard next year due to a "challenging and uncertain patent landscape." ATSC 3.0, also known as Nextgen TV, is a next-generation broadcast format that offers features like 4K TV, HDR, Dolby Atmos, and interactive apps. LG's decision comes after losing a patent fight with a company holding multiple ATSC 3.0 patents. Other TV options with ATSC 3.0 support include Sony's A90K OLED, LG's G2, and select models from Hisense and Samsung.

HDHomeRun Partners with Freecast to Add DRM Support to NextGen TV Box

HDHomeRun, the ATSC 3.0 NextGen TV box, has partnered with FreeCast to offer DRM support, making it the first device of its kind to do so. The integration allows users to access over 700 free streaming channels, 500,000 on-demand movies and TV episodes, and ATSC 3.0 broadcast channels through the FreeCast app. Current owners of HDHomeRun FLEX 4K can update their devices to add the FreeCast software. The HDHomeRun Flex 4K NextGen TV Tuner offers features such as 4 tuners, full 1080p and 4K HDR resolution, and compatibility with various devices and platforms.
