Extragalactic Discovery: Newborn Star's Spinning Disk Found in Another Galaxy
Astronomers have observed a circumstellar disk around a newborn star in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a neighboring galaxy of the Milky Way. This is the first time such a disk has been seen outside of our galaxy. The star is larger and more luminous than the sun, and the disk has a diameter about 10 times larger than the one that encircled the sun when it formed. The detection was made using the ALMA telescope in Chile. The discovery provides valuable insights into star formation in different galactic environments.
