Eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE), also known as asthma of the oesophagus, is a rare inflammatory condition causing chronic inflammation and stiffness in the oesophagus, leading to food blockages. The condition, driven by excessive immune reaction, has seen a significant rise in cases, with estimates suggesting it now affects approximately 63 in 100,000 people. Diagnosis often takes years, but a new drug called Jorveza has shown marked improvement for patients. Research is ongoing to understand the role of diet and develop easier diagnostic methods.
