New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver has been indicted on three counts for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers during a congressional oversight visit to an ICE detention facility, with her asserting the charges are politically motivated and vowing to fight them.
The Wilmington Police Department has identified Edwin Leroy Vaughan, 69, as the suspect who allegedly shot at officers near South College Road and Randall Parkway. Vaughan, who has a history of displaying weapons to officers, fled to a BP gas station and fired at police when they arrived, prompting officers to return fire. No injuries were reported, and Vaughan has been taken into custody. The incident is under investigation, and additional charges are expected to be filed. UNCW also issued an alert confirming the suspect's apprehension and assuring the campus community of no immediate threat.
A 70-year-old man from Pollock, Louisiana, named Ronald Alfred Bryan, has been arrested and charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses, including assaulting law enforcement, for his involvement in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Bryan was identified through open-source videos where he was seen using a wooden pallet as protection, taking a riot shield from a police officer, and attempting to breach the police line. He later bragged about his actions and encouraged others to assault officers. This arrest brings the total number of individuals arrested for crimes related to the Capitol breach to over 1,106.
