Persistent Rise in Theft of Hyundai and Kia Vehicles Despite Security Measures

Despite unveiling software to fix a security flaw that made 8.3 million Hyundai and Kia vehicles easy targets for thieves, the number of thefts is still growing across the US. Police in seven cities have reported substantial year-over-year increases in Hyundai and Kia theft reports through April, with some cities reporting that 60% or more of their auto theft reports now involve Hyundais or Kias. The automakers’ service campaign to install the software should have been more aggressively pursued, according to the executive director of the nonprofit Center for Auto Safety.
