"Death Sentence for Arson Attack at Japanese Anime Studio"
A Japanese court sentenced Shinji Aoba to death for carrying out a deadly arson attack on Kyoto Animation's studio in 2019, killing 36 people. Aoba, who was found mentally capable to face punishment, had sought revenge against the studio, believing they had stolen his novel submissions. The court ruled that the attack was premeditated and that Aoba showed little sincere regret, leading to the death penalty. The government has since increased restrictions on gasoline sales, but declined to comment on the ruling.
