"3D Technology Brings Towering Colossus of Constantine to Life in Rome"

Archaeologists in Rome have reconstructed the Colossus of Constantine, a larger-than-life statue of the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity, using marble fragments to create a reproduction of the 13-meter seated statue. The statue, unveiled publicly, offers a rare view of the towering statues built in ancient Rome to glorify gods or emperors. The pieces, housed atop the Capitoline Hill since 1486, were identified as parts of the Colossus of Constantine, and modern-day archaeologists determined that parts of the statue were perhaps readapted from an earlier statue. The statue will remain in its current location at least through the Jubilee Year of 2025, with city officials to make a later determination over its permanent resting place.
