Apple M2's Linux Performance Compared to AMD Zen 4 Mobile SoCs and Gaming Handheld

Initial performance figures of the Apple M2 in a MacBook Air running Asahi Linux have been compared to the AMD Zen 4 mobile processors. Linux support for Apple Silicon is a work in progress, with graphics driver support still being developed. The comparison was done with a MacBook Air/M2 with 8GB of memory against AMD devices with 16GB. However, there is currently no PowerCap/RAPL or HWMON driver for the Apple M2, so power consumption metrics are not available. These benchmarks provide a rough idea of the Apple M2's performance against the Ryzen Z1 Extreme and Ryzen 7 7840U on Linux.

The 2023 model of Asus’ ROG Zephyrus G14 is now available for purchase, featuring a 504-zone Mini LED screen, Nvidia’s Advanced Optimus feature, and AMD’s Zen 4 CPU architecture. The new G14 can be purchased at Best Buy or on Asus’ website for a starting price of $1,429.99. Also on the way is a new, convertible, 13-inch ROG Flow X13 powered by AMD, which supports Advanced Optimus and comes with one of the first 13-inch iterations of Asus’ Nebula screen. The XG Mobile, Asus’ eGPU that can plug into the Flow X13 for higher performance, is also available for purchase.

ASUS ROG Ally set to launch globally with competitive pricing.

ASUS is expected to release its first Windows gaming handheld, the ROG Ally, soon with a worldwide release. The device is rumoured to be priced at Steam Deck levels, featuring an AMD Zen 4 and RDNA 3-based APU. ASUS plans to undercut equivalent Windows gaming handhelds like the GPD Win 4 and AYA NEO 2 while making it price competitive with the most expensive Steam Deck configuration. The launch price is estimated to be between US$650-US$700.
