Miss Colorado Madison Marsh, an active-duty Air Force officer and Harvard graduate student, was crowned Miss America 2024. She spoke about her mother's death from pancreatic cancer and founded the Whitney Marsh Foundation to raise funds for research. The competition, held in Orlando, awarded Marsh a $60,000 tuition scholarship. This marks the first time an active-duty military member has won the title.
A former Air Force officer has been sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The defendant, who pleaded guilty to obstruction of an official proceeding, was accused of using a police shield to break a window and enter the Capitol during the riot. The judge noted that the defendant's military service made his actions particularly egregious and that he had betrayed his oath to protect the Constitution.
Retired Air Force officer Larry Rendall Brock Jr. has been sentenced to two years in prison for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Brock, who stormed the Capitol dressed in combat gear and carrying zip-tie handcuffs, was convicted of all six counts in his indictment, including obstruction of an official proceeding. Prosecutors had recommended a sentence of five years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Brock believed baseless conspiracy theories that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Republican incumbent Donald Trump.
