Early Detection of Schizophrenia Risk: Age-Linked Brain Pattern Changes
A study led by scientists at Georgia State University's TReNDS Center has identified age-related changes in brain patterns associated with the risk of developing schizophrenia. Using a data-driven method called Neuromark, the researchers analyzed functional MRI scans, genetic, and clinical measures from over 9,000 individuals. They found alterations in brain network connectivity linked to genetic risk for schizophrenia, particularly during late adolescence and early adulthood. These findings could aid in early detection, improve treatment options, and provide potential biomarkers for schizophrenia development.
