Adobe rolls out a sweeping Creative Cloud update, with After Effects gaining SVG import as native shape layers, native parametric 3D meshes, and Substance 3D material support on meshes, plus a boosted motion-typography workflow via the Text Animator. Premiere Pro also gets AI-powered Object Masking and collaboration improvements, marking a major upgrade for video editing and 3D design.
Adobe announced AI-powered updates for Premiere and After Effects: an on-device Object Mask that automatically tracks subjects with editable masks; an upgraded Shape Mask with faster, more precise controls; seamless media import from Firefly Boards and full Adobe Stock integration in Premiere; and in After Effects, SVG import and 3D parametric meshes to create graphics directly inside images. All processing is on-device and Adobe says it does not use user activity to train its models.
GPT-4 helped a team create a custom script to replace a voiceover with animated text in a Mother's Day video for a consumer brand, saving them two to three hours of work. The script was able to chop up each line into individual text layers and animate them in a graceful manner. The plugin Klutz GPT brings ChatGPT into After Effects, making ad hoc scripts and expressions faster and easier. However, this may impact authoritative forums where users used to get help with After Effects expressions and scripts.
Adobe has announced updates to its Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere Pro and After Effects, ahead of the 2023 NAB Show. The new Premiere Pro includes an AI-powered Text-Based Video Editing option that can automatically analyze and transcribe clips, while Automatic Tone Mapping and log color detection functionality lets editors mix and match HDR footage from different sources. Other new features include Sequence Locking for collaborative editing, presence indicators, and Work While Offline. The latest versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects will be available starting in May 2023.
