The UN has accused Russia of blocking humanitarian aid deliveries to Russian-occupied areas in eastern Ukraine affected by the recent Kakhovka dam rupture. Exclusive drone photos and information obtained by the Associated Press suggest that Russia had the means, motive, and opportunity to bring down the dam. The death toll from flooding caused by the destruction of the dam has risen to 16 in Ukraine with 31 still missing and 29 in territories controlled by Russia. Ukraine has recaptured the village of Piatykhatky, marking an apparent escalation of the offensive on the most direct route to Crimea. The EU is speeding up arms deliveries to Ukraine to support the counteroffensive against Russian forces.

African peace mission fails to end Ukraine conflict, Russia reports fierce fighting.

Fierce fighting continues on three sections of the front line in Ukraine, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. African peace efforts failed to gain traction, with Russian President Vladimir Putin deriding the Ukrainian push and saying Kyiv's forces had "no chance" despite being newly equipped with Western tanks. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa presented Putin with a 10-point peace initiative from seven African countries, but Putin responded by rattling off a string of familiar accusations denied by Ukraine and the West.

"Ukraine reports mass abduction of children by Russia amid heightened security measures"

Ukraine claims that 150 children were abducted by Russia from the Luhansk region to facilities on Russian territory, where 750 Ukrainian children were expected to arrive this month. The Kremlin has taken "unprecedented" security measures for the annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, where Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to speak on Friday. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Kyiv as part of an African peace mission to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and will later travel to Russia for talks with Putin on Saturday. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for additional Western weapons to defend against Russian aggression. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency visited the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in Ukraine to inspect the damage caused by the Kakhovka dam attack.

UK and Netherlands pledge fighter jet support to Ukraine in international coalition.

UK and Dutch Prime Ministers have pledged to build an "international coalition" to provide fighter jet support for Ukraine. Meanwhile, a US-made Patriot missile defense system being used by Ukraine likely suffered some damage from a Russian strike, but it did not appear to have been destroyed. A group of six African leaders plans to travel to Russia and Ukraine “as soon as is possible” to help find a resolution to the “devastating” conflict between the two countries.
