The Truth About Face Masks: CBS News Breaks It Down - Slashdot
CBS News interviewed Linsey Marr, a professor specializing in aerosol science, to discuss the effectiveness of face masks in preventing COVID-19 transmission. According to Marr, masks are very helpful in reducing the chances of contracting the virus by reducing the amount of inhaled virus particles. While masks are not 100% effective, even a reduction from breathing in 100 viruses to 20 can significantly decrease the risk of infection. Research has shown that masks, including cloth masks, block particles carrying the virus and prevent infectious virus transfer. The study conducted by Marr's team demonstrated that no virus survived on N95s or surgical masks, and no infectious virus transferred to artificial skin. This evidence supports the effectiveness of masks in reducing virus transmission.
