Lack of Guidelines Hinders Adult Vaccination Adoption in India, Say Doctors

A survey conducted by the Association of Physicians in India (API) and Ipsos reveals that only 16% of adults aged 50 and above in India have taken any adult vaccine, despite 71% being aware of it. The survey highlights the absence of formal guidelines as a major cause for the low adoption of adult vaccination, with 90% of doctors stating that the lack of guidelines results in a lack of interest and adoption by patients. Doctors also hesitate to discuss adult vaccination due to time limitations and patients' prioritization of treatment over prevention. Patients, on the other hand, do not proactively take adult vaccination because they do not receive firm recommendations from their doctors. Measures such as those implemented for COVID-19 vaccination awareness are suggested to increase the adoption of adult vaccination.
